How To Commercialize Advanced Network Capabilities?

Inquiring Telco Minds Want to Know!

By some counts, operators around the world will have invested $600 billion by 2025. Network departments and their vendors have done heroes’ work to roll out advanced capabilities that will enable innovative services and create new value chains, including 5G network slicing, edge resources and standard APIs that will automate and facilitate these innovative services. A year ago, MATRIXX customers were asking us to help them understand the sometimes-confusing ecosystem of industry players who were making this all happen: the Linux Foundation’s CAMARA API project, 3GPP’s new Network Functions and GSMA’s Open Gateway Initiative, just to name a few!

Now, the conversation has shifted dramatically to the business perspective. Today, our customers are working with us to develop examples and use cases of how to commercialize these advanced capabilities. Operators as a whole are wary of falling into the same trap they encountered with 4G: if all they do is count and charge for the minutes, messages and megabytes traversing their advanced network “pipes,” then they stand to be disintermediated and once again commoditized. So, we are working with not only a broad set of industry bodies, but also with our operator customers, to deploy new ways of commercializing advanced network services. It all comes down to creating offers and monetizing based on parameters valued by different players across the service supply chain.

MATRIXX and Catalyst Partners Win Accolades at TM Forum’s DTW24 Ignite

It was another eventful year at TM Forum’s DTW Ignite conference in Copenhagen this June, and under the leadership of our CTO Office, the MATRIXX team participated in three Catalyst projects. Catalysts bring together operators and vendors to co-create solutions that will propel the telco industry into the future. Not surprisingly the common thread to all three MATRIXX projects — where we partnered with operators like Telefónica, SK Telecom and Vivo, and BSS partners like NTT Data, Compax Digital and BluePlanet — was the use of GenAI.

This year at Ignite saw a record number of Catalyst projects (51!) showcasing telco’s future on the expo floor. We were thrilled when our project “Real-Time Intelligence Customer Experiences,” delivered with STC, Bell Canada and Vodafone alongside partners Celfocus and Qeema, was awarded Outstanding Catalyst in the Application of AI and Automation category. Our project illustrated how a broad set of customer data, including real-time monetization data streamed from the MATRIXX solution, fuels an operator’s “insights” platform that, with its Large Language Model (LLM) and GenAI embedded, adapts forecasts and models that provide personalized customer interactions, including advising of changes to usage and spending patterns, making offer recommendations tailored to his or her needs, and proactively identifying and alerting on resolving service issues.
